Tom Austin, beloved husband of Elaine for 56 years, passed away in Boston on August 22nd, 2026. He will be greatly missed.

He was a devoted father, mentor, supporter and teacher to our 2 children (Tom and Liz) and the proud grandfather of Ariel and Alyssa.

Tom was multi-talented and always willing to jump in and provide any assistance to family and friends that was needed such as providing emotional support, coaching a little league or soccer team, solving computer problems, and fixing cars.

Tom retired from Gartner Inc. in 2018 as Group VP and Research Fellow. During his time at Gartner, Tom traveled extensively to every continent, handling visits with customers and speaking at various Gartner IT Symposia and other events held by the customer or Gartner. Over the years, Tom also enjoyed running, scuba diving, and photography. In earlier years, he finished a Marine Corps marathon in DC and a NYC marathon. In later years, he ran the Falmouth Road Race.

During retirement, Tom kept busy either in Boston or Cape Cod. Travels included Australia, Ireland, Canadian Maritimes and visiting family in NY and NJ. He grew a few excellent vegetable gardens, went to the theater and movies, visited museums, was very active in the Morgan ¾ group (vintage car), and joined public policy and current events discussion groups. He also ran a consulting business. Tom always engaged very energetically in every activity he pursued.

Tom is survived by his wife, their 2 children, two grandchildren, their children’s spouses, extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In Tom’s memory, consider providing assistance to a family member, friend or neighbor in need.
