Obituary

Richard L. Dorney, of Peabody, formerly of Everett and Malden, died unexpectedly at age 72 on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, surrounded by his loving family.  Richard is survived by his wife, Rita.  Loving father to his daughter Kristen Nelson and her husband Christopher of Saugus.  Richard will forever be remembered as the proud grandpa to Logan and Mia.  They were the light of his life.

Richard grew up in Malden in a tight knit family of four boys and two girls born to the late Thomas and Bertha (Powers).  He is survived by his five siblings, Tom and Margrete of Sandwich, Patty and Joseph Gravini of Peabody, Kevin and Marjorie of Norwell, Gary and Denise of Wakefield, Sheila and Paul Scanlon of Newburyport; as well as many nieces and nephews who enriched his life.

Richard attended St. Joseph's school and graduated from Malden Catholic High School.  He worked for New England Telephone Company after graduation.  Richard was proud to join the Army and served in Korea.  After honorable discharge he returned to work at New England Telephone (Verizon) where he formed lifelong friendships. He retired from Verizon at age 50 after working 32 years.

Richard took great pleasure in sharing his deep love of music, always sharing a new artist, attending concerts, and pitching the newest must-see movie.  He also loved preparing a perfectly executed meal for his loved ones.  Richard's joy and affinity for fun, was infectious, and he was the first to share his passions with those around him.

Those nearest and dearest, will forever miss his love, warmth, and zest for life… to know Richard was to love him!
