Olga Steckler (Bogach) passed away April 18th, 2020 at the age of 98. She was born in Boston, MA on March 18, 1922. She resided in Hamden, CT and lived most of her life in New York City. Olga was preceded in death by her parents, Dimitry Bogach and Helen (Tokaroff) Bogach and brothers, John Victor and Alexander Bogach, and many dear friends. She is survived by her loving family including her sisters, Vera (Bogach) Gropper and Larisa Bogach, her niece, Dawna (Gropper) Snyder and husband Bruce Snyder, her nephew, Christopher Gropper, her great-nieces, Chelsea (Snyder) Wooding and husband Dylan and Amanda (Gropper) Cote and husband Matthew, her great-nephew, Andrew Cox, her cousin Patricia (Mostika) Leahy and husband Tom, her cousin Joseph Mostika and wife Colleen and son Joey, and many loving friends and cousins who were dear to her.
Olga had a long and exciting life as a studio model posing for illustrators, portrait artists, and photographers, including Frederic Shaw, William James, Rolf Armstrong, Howard Chandler Christy, Dean Cornwell, Roy Spreter, Bradshaw Crandell, Robert Philipp, her dear friend John T. McCoy, her ex-husband Leonard Steckler, John de la Vega, among many others.
Olga lived a life that others could only dream of. She often performed in a dance group for the Russian War Relief in the 1940's. She was featured in national Nabisco billboard ads for Oreo cookies, Ritz crackers, and Premium Saltines by Roy Spreter, pin-up girl in the calendars of Rolf Armstrong, featured in the murals of Howard Chandler Christy, and photographed as one of the seven nudes in the photo "In Voluptas Mors" (Voluptuous Death), a.k.a. the "Human Skull" by Philippe Halsman (photographer) and Salvador Dali (artist).
Olga touched the lives of many and left a lasting impression on those who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
