Obituary

Mae (Beard) McAvoy passed away peacefully at her home in Everett surrounded by family at the age of 95. Born on July 27, 1930, and raised in Salem, Massachusetts. She moved to Everett in 1957 where she resided until her death. Beloved wife of the late John (Mac) McAvoy, mother of Stephen McAvoy of Everett, Debbie (McAvoy) Hall and her husband Jim of California, John McAvoy and his wife Susan of Florida, and the late Ted McAvoy and his surviving wife Susan of New Hampshire. Mae is survived by her sister, Connie Perry from Salem, MA as well as 6 grandchildren; Jamie, Julie and Sara of San Diego, CA, Kim and Jeff of Manchester, NH, and Annmarie of Lynn, MA. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. When her children were young, Mae enjoyed baking cookies and fudge from scratch. Some of her favorites were chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and sugar cookies. Mae was a nurse. She spent many years working at Grover Manor Hospital in Revere followed by years of providing home care for seniors. When her children were grown, Mae and her husband, Mac, spent many a vacation cruising to different islands in the Caribbean until Mac’s death in 1990. In her later years, Mae was an avid reader with a propensity toward fantasy. Often you would find her curled up on the couch deeply engrossed in her latest novel. During the summers, she loved to attend the local drum and bugle competitions with her son, Stephen. You could always find them in the stands cheering on their favorite drum corps. Mae loved spending lots of time at the beach enjoying the water and sun. When she couldn’t make it to the beach, you could find her in the yard enjoying her little wading pool. We would be remiss if we didn’t include her love of animals. Through the years she had many and loved them dearly. Cats, Guinea pigs, birds and bunnies. I’m sure at least a few of them were waiting for her in heaven. Funeral services and interment at Woodlawn Cemetery is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mae's memory may be made to American Cancer Society @ www.cancer.org
