Linda A. McAvoy, 64, of Everett, MA, passed away July 23, 2026, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on January 25, 1962, Linda was raised in Everett and remained there her entire life, deeply rooted in the community she called home.

Linda was the beloved daughter of the late Jeremiah and Josephine Driscoll. She is survived by her daughter, Annmarie Slaney, and her two granddaughters, Riley and Alexis Slaney, who were, without question, the greatest joys of her life. She cherished them more than anything in the world, and their happiness was hers.

She is also survived by her brother, Jerry Driscoll, and his wife, Cathy Driscoll; her brother, Michael Driscoll; her sister-in-law, Donna Driscoll, whose husband, Daniel Driscoll, predeceased her; her niece, Alisha; her nephews, Jerry, Jonathan, and Mark; and her aunt, Maria Sentence. She will also be dearly missed by her beloved Boston Terrier, Tyrion, who was as much a member of the family as anyone.

Linda spent much of her career with the MBTA working in their administrative department, where she worked until her retirement.

Those who knew Linda knew a woman who was fiercely independent and unafraid to speak her mind. She was a devoted advocate for anyone who needed help, a firm believer in justice and doing what was right, and a loyal friend to the people she loved. Her Catholic faith was a steady presence throughout her life, and she gave generously as a longtime donor to St. Jude's charity, a cause close to her heart.

While she endured a ten-year battle with Alzheimer's and dementia, the disease could never take what mattered most, she knew her family and friends until the end, a quiet testament to the strength of the love she built over a lifetime.

Linda found joy in the simple pleasures — shopping, a good movie, music, and a day at the beach. She loved Boston, especially wandering through Faneuil Hall, and never turned down a chance to go out to a concert. She loved animals, and her heart belonged most of all to her granddaughters, Riley and Alexis, whose lives she cherished every single day.

Linda will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, her unwavering sense of justice, and the deep, unconditional love she gave to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, advocacy, and love that will not be forgotten.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett, on Tuesday, July 28th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Linda’s funeral will be from the funeral home on Wednesday, July 29th, at 9 am, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Anthony’s Church, 38 Oakes St., Everett, at 10 am.
