Obituary

LYONS, Joseph H. – Of Everett, passed away on December 1, 2014, at 94 years. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Dolonia (MacDonald) Lyons. During WWII, Joe served in the Navy (1942-1945) on the USS Fayette, APA 43, Amphibious Forces, 5th Beach Battalion, A Company, 1st Platoon for which he received numerous medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. His rank at discharge was Carpenter's Mate First Class (T) V6 USNR. A printer by trade, he was past Vice President and member of Boston Typographical Union and past President and member of Franklin Typographical Society of Boston. He was a late employee of Weems Company Typographers, National Pess, and Jerome Press, all of Boston. Joe enjoyed fishing, was an avid cribbage and 45's player, and more than anything else enjoyed getting together with family. He was the loving husband of 66 years to Irene (Bixler) Lyons. Devoted father of Patricia Lovaas and husband Russell of Carver; Christina Lyons of Everett; Kathleen Cocorochio and husband Michael of Everett; James Lyons and wife Cindy of Moultonborough, NH; Regina "Gigi" Russell and husband Robert of Wakefield; and Charles Lyons and wife Norma of Peabody. Predeceased by his brothers Robert Lyons of Everett, John Lyons of Hanover and Donald Lyons of Boston. Cherished grandfather of Keith Lyons, Keira Bunn, Catherine Russell, Drew Russell, Joseph Lyons and Peter Lyons. Brother-in-law to Ann Lyons of Methuen, Eloise Lyons of Hanover, Mary Cimino of Quincy and the late Harry Bixler of St. Louis, MO; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. In keeping with his belief of always helping others, Joe has donated his body to Harvard Medical School. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
