Obituary

John Dunn of Lynnfield, MA, passed away July 14th, 2026, while in the excellent care of the hospice providers at Laney Hospital in Burlington, MA — a place where he made many friends over the past few years of his health journey.

John was born in Everett, MA, on January 25, 1952, to Daniel Noel and Mary Dunn. He was an avid football player and a friend to many. He attended Pope John High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Salem State University. From there, John began his great life adventure. He moved to Newport Beach, California, where he completed his graduate degree in psychology at California State University at Long Beach.

Not one to follow an expected path, John worked as a bartender at some of the most upscale restaurants Newport Beach had to offer. He created a life of fun and adventure, and his wild gifts and unbelievable stories were awaited each visit home. From tales of skiing the best powder trails out west, to California sunsets on the beach, to time spent with A-list celebrities, John created a life so full of experience and adventure that few of us could imagine it. His personality proved he had chosen the right path: laid-back, accepting, easygoing, fun-loving.

After moving home to Lynnfield in 2007, John spent his time caring for his parents and his sister, Mary. Of course, he always found time for a quick trip down the Cape or a glass of wine at Davio’s.

John is survived by his brother, Daniel N. Dunn, and his wife, Paula, of Durham, NH; his nieces, Caryn Dunn and Danielle Melo; and his great-nephews, Ronin and Liam Keating. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Noel and Mary Dunn, and his sisters, Patricia and Mary Dunn.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett, on Wednesday, July 22nd, from 5 pm to 7 pm, followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 7 pm. There will be a private burial on Thursday, July 23rd, at 11 am in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation to the charity of your choice in John’s name — and take a trip to the beach this summer.
