Gordon Akbar, 84, a prominent businessman in the Roxbury area who owned and operated Akbar's delicatessen and Big G's Ruff-off, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2020. He was Born, Gordon K. Christmas, on September 12, 1935, to the late Gordon K. and Lelia Christmas of the South End of Boston. The oldest of three, he is preceded in death by his brother Nathaniel "Bootsie" Christmas and Sister Gertrude G. Christmas-Swinson.
Gordon, formerly married to Rhoda Lake of Randolph was the loving father of Gordon Christmas of Boston, Rhoda Christmas and her husband Wilfredo Hernandez of Raynham, Akbar Christmas and wife Sharon Christmas of Taunton, Sharrieff Christmas and wife Karen M. Christmas of Middleboro, Ishmael Christmas and his wife Tammy Christmas of Dighton, and Hassan Christmas of Randolph.
He's survived by nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was a United States Air Force Veteran and continued his service as a volunteer, devoting hours of service to fellow Veterans.
Special recognition and thanks to his nurses, doctors, and caring staff at Whidden Memorial Hospital and Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at Everett in Everett, Massachusetts.
Considering the current circumstances, immediate services are private. A celebration of Gordon's life will take place at a future date. His entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to family, unforgettable smile and charisma will be missed "Without a doubt!"
