Obituary

In Memory of Geraldine E. Harney
April 6, 1939 – June 11, 2025

We are saddened to share the passing of our mother and grandmother, Geraldine Ellen Harney, who died at home with family on June 11, 2025.

Born in Chelsea, MA on April 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Josephine (White) Whippen and the wife of Donald M. Harney. She attended Saint Rose School, and worked as a secretary at John Hancock in Boston.

After marrying Donald, she dedicated herself to raising their four children. Her home was a place of stability and care, filled with home-cooked meals, strong values, and a steady sense of love. Geri was fiercely loving and protective of her family.

She enjoyed writing short children's stories, often inspired by animals and small-town New England life and a little girl named Maisy. Christmas Eve in her home was a special tradition, remembered for its warmth, family, and her famous homemade cod cakes.

She cherished her role as grandmother to her five beloved grandchildren. Her sharp sense of humor, loyalty, and constant support will leave a lasting mark on their lives.

She was predeceased by her siblings William Whippen, Paul Whippen, and Mary Carbone. She is survived by her husband, Donald of 63 years, and their four children: Scott and his wife Jehan, Donald A. and his wife Shannon, Kenneth and his wife Maria, and Cynthia Becker and her husband René. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Nur, Maxime, Sadie, Genevieve, and Lucie, who will miss her deeply.

Please join us to honor the life of Geraldine. Her visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 16th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at J.F.
