O'CONNELL, Eugene M. "Gene"-Of Saugus, formerly of Everett, passed away at his home on December 4th, 2016, at 87 years. Beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (Finn) O'Connell. Loving father of Kathleen M. Perkins and her husband Stephen, Karen M. Orlando and her husband Anthony, Kyle M. Strain and her husband Paul, Kimberly A. O'Connell, Michael J. O'Connell and his wife Paula, Daniel J. O'Connell and his wife Nell, Timothy J. O'Connell and his wife Kristina, Kristine M. Davey and her husband Edward, Kevin J. O'Connell and his wife Kelley. Loving brother of Constance Milley and her husband Norman. He is survived by 19 cherished grandchildren, 6 cherished great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Gene was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Exxon as a foreman after 35 years of service and later worked part time as an assistant at the JF Ward Funeral Home for many years. Gene loved spending time with his family and working in the yard of his beloved "O'Connell Country Club". He was a member of the Saugus VFW, an avid skater, and enjoyed dancing. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday, Dec 9th., at 10 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 16 Summer St., Saugus, Visiting hours will be held at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett, on Thursday from 4-8 PM. A private burial with military honors will be held at the VA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene's memory may be made to newengland.uso.org or to Boston's Wounded Vet Run at theyfoughtweride.com.
