Edward J.
Mcavoy
Dec 13, 1960 — Mar 22, 2026
Edward J. "Ted" McAvoy, 65, passed away peacefully on March 22nd, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer lasting just over two years.
Born on December 13th, 1960, in Everett, Massachusetts, Ted was the beloved son of Mae McAvoy and the late John McAvoy. He was raised in Everett and later made his home in Rochester, New Hampshire, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories alongside his wife, Susan Vitale-McAvoy.
Ted proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force before beginning a long and dedicated career as a printing press operator. Beyond his work, Ted was known for truly living life to the fullest. He found joy in camping trips, golfing, playing guitar, singing karaoke, the yearly Ole Woodsman trip with his dearest friends and soul brothers, and traveling—especially to his favorite destination, Aruba.
Ted will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humor, and the warmth he brought into every room. He was kind, generous, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends, who were the center of his world.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Vitale-McAvoy; his daughter, Annmarie Slaney; his cherished grandchildren, Riley Slaney and Alexis Slaney; his bonus son, Joey Vitale, and bonus granddaughter, Alessa Vitale; his mother, Mae McAvoy; his sister, Debbie Hall and her husband Jim; and his brothers John and Stephen McAvoy. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John McAvoy.
Ted's strength, humor, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the countless memories he created with those he loved.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a visitation at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett, on Thursday, March 26th, from 2 pm to 5:30 pm, followed by a memorial in the funeral home at 5:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may choose to make donations in Ted's memory to a cancer research or support organization.
