We are saddened to share the passing of our father and grandfather, Donald Michael Harney, who died peacefully surrounded by his loving children on January 8, 2026.

Born in Boston on September 28, 1931, he was the son of Lela (Brown) and Raymond A. Harney. Donald served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1953. Forever a proud Eagle, Donald graduated from Boston College in 1962. On June 23, 1962, he married Geraldine Ellen Whippen, with whom he shared a devoted marriage and raised their four children. Donald enjoyed a long and dedicated career at The New England Telephone Company.

Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Geraldine, in 2025; his sisters, Lela Dunne, Thelma LoPorto, Eleanor Henneberry, and Olive Jackson; and his brothers, John, Raymond, Robert, and Edward Harney.

He is survived by his sister, Lois Fabiano; his four children: Scott and his wife Jehan, Donald A. and his wife Shannon, Kenneth and his wife Maria, and Cynthia Becker and her husband René. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Nur, Maxime, Sadie, Genevieve, and Lucie, all of whom miss him deeply.

Please join us to honor the life of Donald. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 12th, from 5 to 7 pm at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, January 13th at 10 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Church, 194 Nichols St, Chelsea, at 11 am. Services will conclude with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
