Obituary

David Michael O'Brien, 41, resident of Saugus and native of Everett, MA, passed away suddenly on June 21, 2024.

David will be deeply missed by many family and friends.  He was the beloved son of Celia (Sheila) O'Brien of Everett, MA and his late father, Michael O'Brien. He is also survived by his sisters Erin O'Brien of Medford, MA, Catherine Ruggiero of Derry, NH, and brother-in-law Robert Ruggiero; and his former wife, dear friend and partner of 21 years Melissa O'Brien of Lynnfield, MA.  He was preceded in death by his sister Maureen O'Brien, and many other beloved relatives.

Dave had a thriving career as an IT consultant, most recently at Berklee College of Music and previously at Tufts University.  He was an alumnus of the University of New Hampshire, to which he earned a full scholarship for excelling at football, playing offensive and defensive line until his playing days were cut short to injury.  Prior to that, he was a talented member of the Everett High School football team where he was proud to win a Massachusetts Super Bowl championship ring in 1999.

Dave loved spending time with family and friends, attended gym classes religiously, and was a social member at the Fox Hill Yacht Club.  He enjoyed bike riding and traveling; especially exploring new places. Dave was also an avid reader of all kinds of books – he was always seeking to learn new things and to be inspired by both people and nature.  He was very devoted to and derived great happiness from his rescued hound dogs.

Dave was always wearing the biggest smile, had the most infectious laugh, and a huge zest for life.  He will be so dearly missed by many.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 27th from 4:00-8:00 PM at the J F Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett.  David's funeral will be held on Friday, June 28th from the funeral home at 9 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 487 Broadway, Everett, MA 02149.
